New Delhi:  Delhi appears to have become a dumping ground for bodies with Union Home Minister P  Chidambaram suggesting that most of the over 800 unidentified bodies found in city in the last four months were from neighbouring states.

Chidambaram, in a letter to Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit, suggested that most of the unidentified bodies being recovered in the city are from the neighbouring states, sources said.

Sheila Dikshit earlier this month had met Mr Chidambaram, flagging her concern over recovery of around 860 unidentified bodies in the last four months and urged him to direct police to examine the issue seriously.

She said the recovery of the bodies created panic among the citizens. According to government data, 858 bodies have been recovered from Delhi this year till May 1. Last year, a total of 3,337 bodies were recovered.
