LASHKAR GAH, Afghanistan, April 10 (Xinhua) -- Eight policemen were killed Tuesday morning when a suicide car bomb targeted a police headquarters set off and triggered ensuing gunfight in Musa Qala district of southern Afghan province of Helmand, an official said.
"A suicide car bomb was detonated at the entrance gate of police headquarters in Musa Qala district at about 11:30 a.m. local time enabling two other gunmen to enter the compound," a provincial government spokesman Daud Ahmadi told Xinhua.
The bomber was killed right on the spot, he said.
However, Ahmadi said police chief of the district Abdul Wali was also injured in the attack and was sent by NATO-led troops to a military hospital in the province 555 km south of capital city of Kabul.
He blamed Taliban for the attack.
Afghan and NATO military officials said recently that impressive Taliban-led attacks would occur in the coming weeks and months as spring and summer, known as "fighting season," are drawing near.
Earlier Tuesday, 13 people, including two suicide bombers, were killed and 30 others injured when a suicide car bomb targeted a district office building in Guzara district of western Herat province.
